What causes two wheels to spin in a car on ice?
I heard of something called possi? I've had two cars that when they were stuck on ice both front wheels spin. I now have a 2005 honda civic SI..and only one wheel will spin. Is something wrong with my car or am I missing something?

That car prob doesn’t have limited slip.

Your missing something. The posi unit.

on front wheel drive cars it works different than on other cars ,on some of them when one wheel slips the other one will pull and others it wont, mostly what you find possi units on was rear wheel drive cars, front wheel drive cars are mainly one wheel drive in forward gears and then the other wheel pulls in reverse, good luck.

Front wheel drive cars don’t, and never will have posi.
Only rear wheel drive.

Your car probably does NOT have a posi-traction differential. If it did, you would see both wheels spinning when traction is lost. You are pretty clever to notice that! Most women don’t pay that close attention. If you had a posi-traction differential, when one wheel starts to spin, it locks up and puts power to both wheels. That is what you noticed on your earlier cars. The only solution is to carry a little sand (maybe an old bucket, or even something as small as a margarine tub) and sprinkle a little in front of both wheels. Then start out slow and hopefully, you’ll be on your way.

A Posi traction unit constantly locks (engages) both wheels .
Powerful yes , but much too dangerous for drivers of common cars.
When turning a corner your inside wheel turns less then the outside wheel.
Limited Slip (one wheel that switches back and fourth) allows for this difference in wheel turning ratios.
Posi traction keeps both wheels turning at the same rate all the time..constantly
So when turning in a corner with a posi traction , the back of the car will want to hop outwards and away from the turn.
It can cause you to hit another car with your rear end or spin out.
Posi is awesome for pulling and towing not casual around town driving.
When turning corners in a Posi , you have to coast around corners completely without using the gas pedal At All, or the back end will hop outwards.
My truck is a dually with a modified posi rear end …………No one is allowed to ever drive it , because of this feature .
Limited slip (one wheel) dose not pull as good as the posi .
But posi is not good for making turns ………..Especially in quick or under wet road conditions.
Posi is for pulling , limited slip is for flexability
